Some people just want to rush through (I dont know why... I love the graphics and sometimes just walk around town for an hour staring at them) and get it done... A perfect waste of time! When you're at the crystal desert at level 16, you're as good as dead (my own experience ).

And in every online game there are people who just are flat out ^Idiots^ (no offense) ((better yet full offense)) and they need to learn to grow up... Half the time people are typing "WTS 10 bones!!!!!!!!!1 Whisper me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!111" on the 'all' channel

Then I ask them politely to type that on the 'trade' channel and they start swearing at me and tell me I'm an idiot or something like that. Then I politely "accidentally" go to another district... And do it all over again!

I think it's how you see it, a lot of the 'problems' with people here. I mean, it's the internet, you can't expect everyone to be full of love and happiness 24/7 right? If you focus on all the traders spamming up the chat channel or the people who won't say thank you after a good mission, of course it's going to be depressing.

But what about ALL the people here who've said they do the complete opposite? I do a lot of it too, saying thank you but splitting right after that, answering questions I know the answers to but not the ones I have no clue about. I whisper the spammers to please keep it in the trade channel and they usually do, so I whisper thanks to them for it. I've whispered to a lot of people to come here or to gwonline if I don't know the answer to their question. I've told so many people to go hunting for charrs and trade them in with the collector in Ascalon instead of paying 400-800gp for one freakin fur. You get experience and other items that way.

There are some really good people out in GW too, so why not focus on what they've done to help you out instead? Get yourself a good guild, one that can help you out when you need help, even if it's something as silly as asking what the bonus is for the Frost Gate mission. There are plenty of wonderful people online, but if all you see are the bad ones then of course it'll make the game suck.

I love the replies the guppies give, everyone is a dumbass, noob, gay or retard, even when you try to tell them not to rush into a fight and wait or give instructions. I also don't understand when in a party, members don't reply when you are trying to help. But, human nature being what it is, I guess we have to make choices who to help.

I also noticed too many players who reply when asked for help, "I play for myself". The new players deserve better than that.

I generally agree that there are some real rude "Carbon Base Units" that play this game. Calling them humans or people is to generous. I always try to Play Nice online in this game. Politeness begets politeness. I will admit I have gone out with henchmen just to avoid any hassles, however in the higher missions/quests you really need other human players. I am going to keep a pen and paper handy more often and write down names of Rude,Foul,Offensive, Carbon Base Units and email and follow up with regular mail (Hand written letters have a power all to thier own). I will not stand and take that anymore. My daughter plays this game and she is in her mid-teens. She is not ignorant of such behavour(sp) however, I, as her father am PROTECTIVE. My daughter is a nice young lady (She doesn't like it when I use that term ) It is the truth though. And I am sure there are other younger players that do not need or want to hear/read that crap. They just want to have some fun. I do ask many players in my groups what thier ages are just to get an idea of who is playing this game. As to the minors that play it is up to the PARENTS to monitor thier game play(as with other things in thier young lives) To many parents just let them go at it without even sitting down with them while they play these types of games. And these "Parents are SHOCKED to read in the news that some young teen was murdered/raped,etc. I know everything that my children do on MY computers in my house. I do not need to be sneaky about it. I ask them for all thier passwords to all thier accounts. I spot check them. I have learned that they do not go where they are not suppose to go online. To many creeps out there and this game can be a Hunting Ground for those creeps. I know here on this forum there are very responsible/kind/helpful/caring people. With that in mind, keep an eye out for the vulnerable ones playing this game and teach them to protect themselves. Even go as far to have these young ones write down names of people that fall into the "creep" catagory.

With that said, I do not mean to sound like a member of the goverment in the book 1984 either. I am a firm believer in free speech and ALL that. The only way to curb this bad behavour in this game is to MARK these "Units" and let Arenanet know about it and force Arenanet to DO something about it. They have the Shut off Valve to stop these "people" (there I used that term) from playing. Maybe, then after these "people" realize that they lost $50.00 purchasing this game from thier own actions they will wake up and join the human race.

Old Warrior Dood, I feel the same way. I am 17 and I feel that the rude people in this game are completely ruining the experience of the game. I have taken it into my hands to help those that do not know about something whenever I am able; now, I am having to play "mom" ... I'm a guy Well, let me put it this way: I started reporting people 2 days ago; since then, I have reported 4 people using 3 reports and 8 screenshots. This is becoming absurd. I dread walking into town now because, while I like a good portion of the community, there is also that pretty good chance to run into the low life, pond scum that plague the game community. I wish that this could change and I did not have to report people, but when someone is speaking of doing something sexually descriptive and I am trying unwind from a crappy day of crappiness, I do not want to hear it.

I almost always answer questions for newer players.

I've also been incredibly surprised at the level of immaturity and rudeness that I've seen. I normally tell assholes off, someone has to... and I'm skilled in the delicate art of internet flaming

Hey! It's the only measure of social control we have!

edit, BTW -- I normally turn off local chat when people are being disgusting losers. I really can't stand stuff like that. I wish there was a button i could click to give them a little shock or something. Ooohh, man.. i'm a social psychology student so you can imagine how much I'd enjoy that

Just remember, it is always a good idea to find people who are friendly and add them to your friend's list. Or better yet, join a guild of like minded individuals. With a little bit of social networking, you can avoid being bothered by people that are too selfish to answer a simple question.

Though I do have to admit that it is fun to completely verbally demolish somebody who is being a jerk in town. It won't keep them from being a jerk in the next town, but it makes you feel a lot better.

Well, I try to be one of the few...I answer a lot of questions, although I do ignore the IM speak and "help me help me" messages most of the time.
I helped one newbie for 3 hours in pre-sear (about 10:30PM to 1:30AM)...that was a lot of work, but I had fun with it.
I try to keep proper grammar (it helps a lot when people can actually understand what you're typing), I avoid spamming, and I try to tell people to move it to the trade channel (hard when you have 5 people WTS on local in Lion's Arch).

Someone linked to Penny Arcade earlier. Here is another one from VG Cats, also from UT. It describes alot of people I've seen in GW as well:

Why is it that when I read about people reporting others for being rude, obnoxious, or swearing I find myself laughing? Do we as normal people see someone doing something rude, call 911 and go, "I'd like to report someone being rude at 18th st and union hills?" Of course not, we ignore it and we go on. Tell em to shut up or quit it or what ever but reporting it to ANet is like telling a cop that some dude have you the bird as he walked across the street. As for the language, there's a filter, want your kids to not see the cursing? turn it on! Leave ANet alone and let them take care of the more pressing matters, you know the ones that we all really care about, you know like more add ons, fixing bugs, fixing AI pathing, that kinda thing. If they spent all their time reading complaint emails about who did what to you and you'd like to have them disciplined well then they'd never get to anything. And maybe your thinking of saying, well its only a couple of emails, but if we all sent just a couple of emails, thats a ton they have to read through. So lets do something about it ourselves ingore the morons (since we also have the ability to use the ignore list as well as the friends list) and continue playing.

Just my two cents.

So you're saying you can't report racism, discrimination and other abuse to the police, or other departments, in the real world? I don't think anyone is reporting people for swearing a little here...

Well that problem is besides the monthly fee, the main reason why i have stayed so far away from only online games, and prefer singleplayer games over multiplayer.

I know that at first i will hardly answer to someone, as said i am new to the game and to the online stuff. So first i will learn everything and teach it to my sister. Which will be more shy than me and who will probably hate that part of the game. Once i am over that i think i am a person that would answer questions dont know.

Major problem on the european district at the first place is that everyone seems to talk in his/her first languege and so making a community gets hard i assume. And for yourself its probably very annoying to follow the chat, when always pits of french, italian, spanish etc interup it.

It is a little silly how people are flaming about those who are flaming them they flame them. A never ending cycle of flame.

Just stop flaming, period. Be nice, if others dont just ignore them.

If we all stop retorting to the silly chat then the amount of crap rolling through the chat in common areas will slow up a bit. When the chat gets really bad I just turn it all off.

Find a good guild that helps one another. I love my guild. Made the game experience 10 times better.
